Case studies

Global EPCI responsible for installation of monopiles in an offshore wind farm with hard-rock seabed. Pre-drilled boreholes required to install monopiles but client concerned with movement of piles prior to critical grouting process. As part of design of monopiles client had desire to have stabilizing pins installed within piles and then once monopiles installed have this pins engage with borehole walls to give secure anchoring of piles.

Contract type: EPC

Value: 1,500,000

Caley and partner Houlder worked with client and designed a vessel mounted Pile Fixation Tool with completely standalone control and delivery system, that was deck mounted and used each time monopiles were installed. System lowered itself down within the inside of monopile to marry up with pre-installed stabilizing pins and once confident in place (cameras, proximity sensors part of our delivered system) the PileFixation Tool was hydraulically actuated and pushed pins into surrounding borehole and seabed thus providing desired anchorage. Once complete system then recovered and placed back on deck until next monopile installation.

Wind farm project where jacket foundations were being used. Operator keen to install system that met with latest DNV recommendations of minimizing movement in all planes to as close as 1mm, prior to grouting and without need to have installation vessel keep station till grouting complete.

Contract type: EPC

Value: £12,000,000

Caley and partner Houlder (Caley acting as main EPC for system delivery) developed a PileProp system that resulted in internal props (array of six in each jacket leg) being designed and delivered to foundation fabrication yard for installation prior to jackets being installed. System supplied with self contained Control System that actuates props once jacket is in-situ offshore and push props out to engage with pile pins and provide rigid zonal fixity, prior to grouting.
